either is fine, but if it's internal, it needs to be IDE (my comp is old).

and i basically need as much as i can get. 500gb-ish might be a good place to start.

actually, i found this external case that takes up to 2 sata drives, so i could use an internal sata drive if they're cheap.

Maxtor 500GB EXT OneTouch - $100
http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/st...&storeId=10001

Western Digital 500GB EXT MyBook - $100
http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/st...&storeId=10001

(add something really cheap, pencil, to the order for free shipping)

Do you have Google Checkout? Buy.com randomly dished out $25 off of $75 coupons to GCO users. Add an item to cart, enter GCO, and see if your Google cart reflects the savings.

Western Digital GP (Green Power) 500GB HDD, SATA - $89.99 ($64.99 after coupon)
http://www.buy.com/prod/western-digi...205838351.html

This is a great storage drive. The platters spin between 5400rpm and 7200 pending load.

I just picked up the Western Digital My Book Essential 500GB for about $100. That's the going rate now; I really don't need an external drive but if it's for storage, it's great.

Pro: Doesn't require me to open up the case, screw it in, drag the cables, etc. 101% plug and play. Took it out of the box, plugged it in and I was ready to toss on files

Con: Somewhat slow data transfers but I could live with it.

I'm contemplating cracking it open and just use it as an internal drive but will wait and see how it goes.
