like stephan said, it's only the first and you have to come between like 1k-3k miles. from what the salesguy told me, they just check everything to make sure there's no problems, and top off the fluids.

those are usually paid out of the dealers pocket. which is why I believe you were correct in that you have to take it to the dealer that you bought the car from.
