Default Running Crew - I need new shoes

So, my running shoes are toast and it is time for a new pair. I am looking to keep it under $100 and need some ideas.

My $30 New Balance are great. Light weight, hold up well, and look alright. No need for high end running shoes.

I like my New Balance shoes and I am sure I paid right around $100 for them.

Don't have them in front of me right now but I think they were the 858 model but not sure.

i like adidas running shoes, they are relatively lightweight, very comfortable, durable... and affordable...

My wife likes her Sauconys.

I usually wear Asics or New Balance.

I have the Asics Gel 1100 right now and I did like the shoes a lot, and may go with another pair this time around. I am also thinking of trying out a pair of New Balances.

Should I try shoes on at a running shoe store prior to purchasing a new pair or does it not matter?

Unless you're buying exactly the same shoe, I would try them on.

I just finished my run on the New Balance 428's (I think the lower end) and they feel great. I run on crappy asphalt and sidewalk and not too much strain on the knee and calf.
