building a arcade cabinet
anyone done this?
i'm looking at pieces right now, i have the PC to do it sitting around and i found a place that sells analog to USB converters for the controls for about 50 bucks
i can buy all the control pieces for about 60 bucks total
im thinkin with a 19" monitor i could have a working system for under 200 bucks
and then i just need to build a cabinet for it

I'd look into modding an Xbox 1 for all of your arcade needs. These should run $40 and with a 100gb HDD, you can blow the thing open.
+ MAME (multiple arcade machine emulator ... think all Capcom, Midway, SNK, Konami releases)
+ SNES, Genesis, NeoGeo, etc emulation.
and finally ... this ...

These sticks are the finest around. Real deal, arcade quality stuff ...

Software:
There are certain games with code holes in them. Mechassault was the most popular of the bunch.
Hardware:
From there, download a save exploit onto a memory card. There's a version of the GameShark which included a PC USB to Xbox memory card writer. You'll need this to get the Mechassault exploit onto your memory card.[pic]
How to execute:
Run Mechassault. Load a game, look for your exploit. At this point, you're given to reflash the Xbox Bios.
The rest is basic FTP work. You'll need a PC crossover cable to wrap this up.
Connect the cable from your PC's NIC to your Xbox, run FTP software, and trick your PC into thinking the Xbox is a server. You'll be able to access the Xbox's hard drive directory structure at this point.
This is how you get applications, emulators, and roms onto the console.
I have all the tools here to get this done. If you were interested in trying this, I can supply Mechassault and a memory card w. exploit.

The Xbox dashboard UI is pretty lame ...
When the system is turned on, the bios looks for a file called "msdashboard.xbe". Overwrite the "msdashboard.xbe" with something more flashy ftw. When you're done modding the system, you'll boot directly to something like this:
