Default HAN what do you think of this Craftsman floor jack, jack stand & creeper set?

I have a good set of tools but never got around to buying a floor jack or stands. Usually went over to a friend's house when I need to work on my car. But the work is piling up, and with swapping summer and winter tires plus my plans to buy coilovers and change up the ride height for seasons as well, I figure it's time to buy a jack and stands.

Looked on the Sears website and found this on sale for 100 bucks this week: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00950188000P

Seems to have pretty solid reviews on the site as well. You guys think I should snag it?

I have the jack stands that are in the set and I like them alot. My buddy has the jack from the set as he needed the jack and I already had one. I wish the jack lifted a bit higher, but for 99 bucks its a hell of a package.

For the miata? no. you have no need for a jack that can lift 6000 lbs. They have a 2 ton (i think) version of this set on sale for 50 or less almost every time I go into sears. (never see it advertised online though).

So, nice set, but seems like overkill to me.

I'm pretty sure it is this jack with a creeper.

Well yeah, of course a Miata doesn't weigh 3 tons.

I'll keep an eye out in the store to see if I can do any better on price for all three items together.

Thanks for the heads up! :goodjob:

my thing is, that for the money you can't find a 2 ton that lifts anywhere near high enough at least for my taste. So I have like an 8 ton jack or whatever, sure its overkill to the max but the bitch can lift my car high enough in the air that I don't have to bend 30 different ways to get to a bolt.

Good point.

Someone over on miata.net pointed out that the 2-1/4 ton stands are rather more flimsy looking than the 3-ton stands.

The guy whose house I go to says he has the same 3-ton Craftsman jack which is now his "backup" that he keeps in his truck because he has some spiffy one in the garage, but the Craftsman is still great.

Another friend locally suggested whatever I get that I go for a second pair of stands.

So...I just ordered the combo deal and another pair of 3-ton stands for in store pickup. $119 total + tax.

If you've never used a creeper before, they're kinda weird at first. Unless you get a jack that makes the car go higher, you won't really be able to get far enough under the car to use it. I have that jack. Leaks ftl.

I got a low profile one from Harbor Freight, and it works much better. $89.

I would've recommended considering a lower minimum height on the jack but it looks like you already pulled the trigger. That combo seems perfectly fine though. All you'll need is some 2x4's.
