Default 360 Crew v.DVD Probs

This is the 2nd time this has happened, but with two DVD discs the HD-DVD add on player and DVD player on the 360 itself have produced no sound with a dvd. One was an older dvd that I figured it was the dvd itself, but the 2nd one was newer. Has anybody encountered this before, or is this a common problem?

The HD-DVD player is trying to upscale when the disc won't allow the resolution. Same might go with the internal drive. (576p)
