Default lamo question about mac/pc

what makes a mac so different than a pc in regards to installing operating systems? on a mac you can install windows and run leopard or whatever the latest version is.

but why cant you install leopard on a pc? is the hardware really that different?

heres an attempt at a mac clone for sale http://arstechnica.com/journals/appl...-clone-for-399

I had leopard on my lappy...
not impressed one bit. I tried to install a wireless driver for my card and the OS crashed and wouldn't boot again...

10.5.2 here. Rock solid.

The big technological difference between a mac and a PC at this point is the use of an EFI as opposed to a BIOS. It's basically a newer, more high-tech way for the OS to control the configuration of the basic hardware of the computer.

The big user difference is that Apple hardware tends to be that much more well designed than most PC configurations. I don't mean that in a $4K alienware gaming offering, but in the sense that I get abour 4 hours off-the-wall for basic use, it's light, and it's got all of the features I want (And, like the HD accelerometer, some I didn't know that I needed)

Well, there is a push for performance. My Macbook has a T9500 2.6Ghz Core2 Duo, 4GB ram, 8600M GT w/ 512 ram, 200G 7200 drive, led lit 1440x900 display, dual layer burner, 802.11n, bt, backlit keys... but where this differs from alienware offerings is how they're targeting some of the extra features: Gigbit networking, optical and analog audio (both in and out), accelerometer that locks the harddrive if it falls, Firewire 800, and it's an inch thick.

And apple's power connector > *

It's just designed to be a great laptop, and not a luggable desktop replacement like some of the competitors.

Close competitor to my Macbook in terms of features is the Dell XPS M1730. For about the same price, you get a bigger screen on the Dell, but my macbook weighs half as much and is about half as thick. Oh, and about 3X the battery life.
