LANSING, Mich. -- A brazen thief stole a boa constrictor by sticking the snake down her pants on Thursday at Preuss Animal House, in Lansing's Old Town.

Surveillance video at the store shows the woman reaching into the snake tank and walking away.

A clerk at the shop said that when he turned his back, the woman snatched up the boa, stuck it in her pants and left.

Word spread quickly about the unusual incident, and there was some concern for the young snake's health.

"This is a very young baby we need it back here right away," said Rick Preuss, the store's owner.

"She brought it back right away and ran out the door before I could even get hold of any law enforcement."

The snake is worth almost $200. Since it is safely back at the store, no charges will be filed.
