I dunno, I don't like the kit lens standard apertures... usually 3.5-5.6... f/5.6 @ 55 mm sucks for low light/non flash settings. I suppose alot of the new kit lenses have VR or IS, which helps the problem some.

That's why I love my Sigma 24-60 f/2.8... f/2.8 all the way to 60mm.

That's just personal preference though... I don't like to shoot at ISO 1600 or with a flash when I could just open it up more and let in more light.
