Before, a lot of flights had to fly North to Canada, over Newfoundland - then cross the atlantic. I always figured it was because they were the closest land points.

continental airways will be one of the front leaders in giving the best transatlantic rates. they have the largest order for new planes from boeing compared to any other airline by a clear margin

So that'll mean more money from the consumer to pay their fuel bill.
