just called the insurance company...

If I remove collision and comprehensive from the infiniti and add the civic as a "pleasure vehicle," my rate actually goes down $70 :rick: Now if only I could find a place to park all three. h:

Not worth it considering you drive the infiniti the most. The civic should be listed as a recreational vehicle anyways. It's not even running.

Well, I've got a $1k deductible and the car is only worth about $5k, so if I were at fault in an accident, I'd be pretty boned anyway.

Speaking of which, I should ask if I can make the truck a "pleasure vehicle"... I only drive it once every couple weeks or so.

I don't know the rule of thumb.. Eddie is the resident insurance specialist on HAN. What I would say is if you drive it less than 5000 miles a year, it would be a recreational vehicle.

Just to continue talking to myself... hfawk:

I think I've decided to insure both the civic and the truck on a recreational basis until I get the civic up to reliable, serviceable transportation standards. Once that goal is accomplished, I will re-evaluate trading the Infiniti & truck for a 4runner.

After a long talk with my business partner/mom today, it's looking like a career change may not be too far off the horizon (maybe 2 years)... at which point I can drive junkers with no worries. :exnbp:

Running some numbers in my head

H22A
motor, trans, ecu..... $1900
mounts....................$450
axles.......................$300
---------------------------
sub total.................$2650

minus selling complete B16A swap, including header, cams, all the junk -$2000

Total......................$650

B18C
longblock...............$1700 (I already have mounts, trans, etc)

minus selling B16A longblock including cams & junk, but keeping the header -$1500

total....................$200

b20z 99-00... the 9.5 compression one, not the 8.8
longblock..............$750
junkyard parts.......$150
-------------------------
subtotal...............$900

minus selling B16A longblock including cams & junk, but keeping the header -$1500

Total..................-$600 hey, money left over for tires!

Now, looking at the numbers, the h22 definitely looks like the best bang/$... But its higher initial cost would require me to sell the b16 first in order to buy the parts. I would be doing all the work at my friend's shop, and he doesn't have any space for car storage, so this also means I'd have to pay/arrange for towing an empty shell back and forth between home and the shop. These factors make me lean towards keeping it b-series (even though I love the h22 powerband :hs: ).

The benefit of keeping it b-series is A) I can afford the block without selling the b16... no downtime waiting for it to sell. B) I already have all the associated parts C) I could swap the motors and be done with it in 4 hours, rather than likely taking a whole weekend. (this matters because my homie would have to be there helping me... he already does tons of work with his friends in his off-time, and I don't want to take his much-needed time off away from him).

I've also considered keeping my cams & valvetrain, but this would require the additional expense of tuning and dyno time. To be realistic, buying all that junk was a bad move on my part... I'd kinda like to recoup some of that money I blew. h:
