Need to ask you guys a question moving.
Hey guys i have been living in San Diego, Ca since i was born. I have been working at Starbucks for almost 4 years now and getting tired of retail part of business. I was in Maui, HI a little while ago and the Hyatt was interested in hiring me. (Because i had worked at Starbucks) They wanted me to work the Coffee Bar (Starbuck Franchise) and do other misc things around hotel. I almost had a heart attack about the benefits and pay 15 to start with then a few months down the road up to 18-20. Plus you get a extra 300 dollars a DAY in tips. WOWZ I know i want to take it but am having a hard time doing so. Family lives in San Diego, and i would have to work min 50 hours a week. What you guys think leave SD leave family friends and work for a few years and make bank? oh ya 120,000 a year. Or another job is coming in that is possible a Computer Tech job that i love computers be getting out of retail, and love working on them. Pay isn't as good SD is A lot more then maui. But i would be making about 50,000-60,000 computers. My gut says do what i would LIKE to do Not always about the money. What you guys think?

If you genuinely believe you're going to earn 120K per year working at a coffee bar on Maui, I've got some waterfront property in Barstow to sell you.
You need to sit down and plan all of your expenses on a monthly basis, including rent, utilities, transportation and the cost of the move itself.
Then look at your income after taxes.
I think you'll reconsider and stay on the mainland.

Ok, so I just did a cost of living & salary comparison between tampa, fl and a couple different places in hawaii. Assuming that pay rates are actually reflective of the cost of living, a job that makes about 50k a year here, would pay about 90k in Hawaii....even though it sounds like a lot, with the cost of everything, it isn't much at all!
Next, to get to $120k, it would take about $500 a week in tips. At a hotel, I could POSSIBLY see an average of $100 a day in tips, so it is feasible. Gotta remember though, even making $120k down there, money will still be tight because EVERYTHING costs a lot more.
