Windows External Notebook Drive Question
I got a 2.5" external drive for a notebook drive. The hard drive apparently wasn't booting up properly anymore, so it was replaced. I plugged the drive into a laptop running XP and after plugging it in and unplugging it, XP finally reconized it. The hardware was installed but it was not given a mapping, and I couldn't get XP to get the properties(Size of drive, etc).
Any ideas on what to do?

There are four extra pins, for jumpers I'm assuming, but there isn't one on. There are no markings on the drive to tell what position to put a jumper on.
hmmm.
i guess its an issue with the external case.
h:
regarding those 4 pins... usually no jumper = master.
try unplugging and replugging it several times
can you hear the drive spinning up? some drives need external power to start up

I can hear the drive spinning up. The case has two usb cables, one for data and one for power.
I recommend one of those external hookups.... it's the whole thing minus the external case. For $20 you can at least test the drive to see if it works.
