Default Photography Crew v. Gary Fong Lightsphere

Does anyone have it? If so can you not live without it anymore?

I'm thinking that my next purchase is the SB-600 with a Lightsphere II. I just got out of class and we watched a video about the Lightsphere and it looks gorgeous with photos.

Worth it?

sure can, its a great diffuser dont get me wrong but if you know what your doing and have a standard square diffuser you can get the same effect. you can make your own gary fong lightsphere with a standard clear or white plastic cup. shit i use a white business card as a diffuser for my pop up flash on my camera

I don't have it but it should work well for portraits and close ups. Nothing with distance. You lose a lot of light with that diffuser. There's another one that I was going to pick up but been lagging, it's more versatile.

Pick up the SB-800 forget the 600 if you're looking to only have one.

What do you do, put the white business card under it to bounce light up?

I've seen people stuff one layer napkins in their pop-up to help diffuse it as well.

It is an exceptionally simple theory and any reflective surface will work for bouncing strobes and flashes. different colors give different effects such as a grey, white, gold or even black card.

What you bounce it with or diffuse it with is mostly a matter of ease of use and convenience, how you use what is at hand is the art portion of it all

He was telling me that he once took a class with the photographer for Playboy and the guy brought a white sheet, pinned it between two stands, and pointed his flash at the sheet and it made it like an umbrella lamp. Whenever I film with the local TV crew for our show we are using bounce cards all the time...fun shit! Love capturing the sun and bouncing it somewhere else.

Use a milk jug, don't waste your money on that crap. And while you are at it, get the flash off the camera.
