I personally drank a lot of milk and ate a lot of cheeses which is LOADED with calcium. My stones were calcium based so that is what caused mine. There are MANY classes of stones and what they are made up of. Basically it is a substance that you can't digest that easily so there is left over.

one of my best friend's father has them pretty bad
they run in the family and he has been told not to drink beer because of it
i know they must hurt like hell, but no beer would be almost as terrible

hope things turn out well, and research what caused it so you can avoid the situation if at all possible

good luck dude, I just went to urologist today myself and I might have to have surgery as well. Is he doing it in the states?
