I have no experience here, but I asked my dad and he said that when he did it years ago he had a job lined up first. The job then paid for an apartment for up to 3 months or until he found a permanent house. They also took care of selling his old house.

Ugh, don't live in Houston. It's america's armpit. No culture, smelly, hot, humid, polluted, and just a crappy city all around.

I grew up in central TX and still go back to visit family once or twice a year. Austin and San Antonio area are really the only decent areas of Texas. Corpus isn't bad, but there's not a whole lot going on there except for the beach.

When I was working for Holiday Inn they moved me. When I first moved to SC all I did was pack up some clothes and hitchhiked there.

I have a count down, and I am moving to colorado in no more than 2 years even if I don't have a solid job to boot. I have a couple friends who moved to different states without having a job yet, they took enough money with them to live for 6 months and looked for jobs non stop.
