TOKYO, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Paramount studios is poised to drop its support of the high-definition DVD (HD DVD) format after Warner Bros studio said it would back the competing Blu-ray format, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday.

I'm glad I only got mine for $100. It's a damn fine machine for upconverting. :hs:

anyone care to comment on what kind of job blu-ray players do in upconverting?

I don't have a stand-alone player, just a PS3. I can try it if you'd like.

they're still locked in here for the next 18 months... so either they release on HD-DVD or don't at all for that period

I can only go off of one movie. But me and the gf watched a season of nip/tuck on my PS3 and it looked alot better upconverted then on a regular dvd player. But i can't give that much of an expert opinion because i'm not a av guru.
