Default Criminal Mischief?

How serious of an offense?
I know it would vary by state, but give me some ideas

Brothers friend was out with his friends, thought it was a good idea to steal a car, got caught, but they were just in "getaway" car hangin out, one kid ( who is retarded anyways) was the one caught trying to steal the car

isn't that attempted grand theft?

if the car has a value of under 2K, then a very good lawyer might be able to reduce a sentence.

I was just wondering because I was over at his place on Friday, saw my friend on New Years Eve, and he told me his brother was in jail, with this charge I guess......

there is a saying, "choose your friends wisely"
how many NFL players get in trouble because of the company they choose to associate with? same thing applies.

doesn't sound like he's hanging around with a bunch of bright kids. sucks, but he's going to need a lawyer if he doesn't want to get into a heap of crap. if the lawyer is any good he should be able to judge shop and get a judge that will be more forgiving than some of the hardasses.

Grand theft actually plays in at $300 h:

Probably a slap on the wrist this time around but if they want to be dicks they can get him on felony charges of conspiracy since more than 2 people were involved.

You should become a lawyer, you seem to be very well versed in this subject.

I used to steal cars and when I got busted my buddy in the seat next to me got probation, community service and expungement.

he was lucky he was under 18 or they would have hit him with a felony charge.
