Default PS3 owners chime in vs. upscaling???

So I have the PS3 hooked up to my 1080p hdtv via HDMI and the ps3 games looks absolutely fantastic and so do the blu-ray movies. Now my question is I played my regular dvds through my dvd player via composite cables (480i, I need to get component ). Anyway, I was gonna buy component to bring it up to 480p but then I remembered the ps3 upscales regular dvds.

So I took out the dvd (OZ season: 4 disc 1) and put it in the ps3. Put the settings to upscale, hdmi, full screen, etc.....Checked output via tv remote and says 1080p but I didn't notice any difference at all in picture. Anyone have any ideas? I remember it saying that if its copyrighted it won't upscale or something but aren't all legit dvd's copyrighted?

The PS3 is a subpar DVD Player at best. Great BluRay Player though.

My Oppo upscale makes regular dvd's look GREAT!..... But mostly @ 720p.
Upscaling is ok... but no where near your Blu-Ray

That's why I was asking if anyone had any ideas.

True, however being that it can upscale it should surpass the image quality of my 4 year old panasonic dvd player, even if it's by a little.

The problem is the OZ...that's a show full of fruitcakes. Are you a fruitcake cam? I didn't think so.
