Option 3...

Fridge opens up (I'm guessing this is a standard fridge h: ) and you can take anything in there to the stove or sink, same goes for the sink to the fridge, or stove to fridge, and so on...

And werd on what John said, the Kitchen triangle doesn't always work...

Well, I don't want to DIY the plumbing, so moving those pipes means getting a permit... which probably means I'll need somebody licensed to do the whole damn thing (the wall-moving bit).

Yeah, the fridge hinges on one side, so it would open up towards the rest of the kitchen. Looking at that pic again, I think I'd move the range a little north on that counter.

Are those load bearing walls?

Also, my second choice is option 2

Nope, none of the walls I moved in the drawings are load bearing.

:edit: option 2 also allows me to use a normal hood/microwave combo... so no microwave on the counter taking up space.

It's difficult because Option 2 allows more space and straight fridge to stove appeal, while option 3 gives you working space on either side of the stove and that is a GREAT asset.

nope, just trying to figure out which wall to knock down h: In all reality, this probably isn't going to happen for a while... but when I do it, I'm gonna do wood or laminate floors in the kitchen, dining room and living room and put down some new vinyl in the laundry room. Cabinets will be the tall 42" ones along the left wall, probably some sorta maple... something medium-light in color. No idea on countertops.

And after looking at the whole area that would be opened up, I'm thinking option 3 might look a little weird. It would open up an area into the hallway a bit instead of into the living room. I'll make a drawing tonight after work.
