More Wireless Problems
As some of you know/remember, I got a wireless router back in September after my brother moved back from college. After upgrading all the drivers and enabling WPA instead of WEP security, the wireless connections worked. Now we are having more problems with the wireless connection, but only on his PC. My dad's laptop stays connected all the time downstairs. However, my brother's PC in the next room over from mine constantly loses connection. It has signal, but loses connection and is scanning channels. When I changed the WPA passkey, it worked for a day...lost connection again. When I would disable security completely, it connects without a problem. Tonight I upgraded the firmware to the router in hopes of it helping. When I went back onto his PC, it was still scanning for channels. I looked at the security setup, and it had changed itself from WPA back to WEP somehow. Keep in mind, my dad's computer has never lost connection, except when I changed the passkey.
Any ideas? It doesn't seem like a router problem, but maybe a problem with his PC. I'm just dumbfounded as to why it is happening all the sudden, and wondering what is wrong with the security aspect of it...just with his PC.
Thanks.

Maybe it's something environmental? Have you tried physically moving the computer? I know it seems ghey, but things like microwaves and 2.4GHz cordless phones are known to wreak havoc on wifi.
When I went to MacWorld in 2000, I wanted to cary a backpack full of cordless phones through the exhibits to watch 'em scramble. Couldn't get away with that these days.

It's not a signal problem, it just can't connect to the internet. It seems like it is still working as of now. I'll check again tonight after work.

is the wireless hardware b/g/n? and what does it support? It could be that your router is having difficult broadcasting to multiple protocols. Using one while the other is turned off may help indicate whether or not that's the case if you can't find any info on one of those pieces.
