Municipal WiFi
Does anyone live an area that offers municipal Wifi? Philadelphia has theirs setup through Earthlink but in the five months that I have been a subscriber, it never worked so I just cancelled it. Disappointed because it would have been a really good service to have :hs:
I just don't think the technology is to the point for this to be feasible. maybe in the future, but for right now I could see major bottleneck and interference issues, among other things.
From what I read, the system was antiquated before it was even built -- limited at 1MB or so.
My school was the first University in the country to offer a fully wireless campus, and this was back in 1999/2000 before it was cool. Maybe if the city had allowed them to expand their network throughout the city, it wouldn't completely and utterly suck.
UC Berkeley had wireless using Ricochet technology it back in 1998
