anybody ever buy/sell a 'short sale'
seems like theres tons of these now .. wondering whether there are anything to watch for
edit--real estate short sales, where the seller owes more to the lender than the house is worth.. so the lender allows the seller to sell the house at a loss

How long have you been investing?

you can make just as much money long, it's all about how much risk you wanna take on and how much money you have to play with. Selling short would have been a good idea a few weeks/months ago, but the market looks to flatten out by next week which will close the door on alot of short selling opportunities.

this isn't canada, options used to be non-taxable but they changed the rules. So now you can't give them away without paying on them. Alot of companies don't do options any more for just this reason.

Anytime you go into the market anticipating a short gain (less than a year) then you are gambling. If you look for dividend paying companies trading at a value (P/E less than the average for the segment that the company is in) and intend to hold, then you will have long term success. The problem is that investors get spooked by fluctuations in the market that they sell too early. One thing you can count on is that investors will make mistakes based on stupidity and fear.
