Dude 12 grand is no reason to file bankruptcy. I owe more than that. Call your creditors and tell them your situation with school. There is something they can do. Like people said, they would rather see some money rather than nothing at all, which is what they'll get if you file. It will eff your credit for a long time man. Just pay them what you can. Work a second job to make a little money. Better to make the sacrifices now than down the road

I wouldn't do it ... I'd hit up Labby for a loan.

Whatever you do, just make sure that the repercussions to your credit score are clearly in writing. Whatever deals you make, make sure they don't rape your credit report. Get as much info as you can.

Go to a consumer credit counselor, don't declare bankruptcy. I was in the same boat as you and it can be overcome.

Since it's like 95% don't do it I might reconsider and look at other options. I'll figure it out.

go talk to a debt consolidation company. bankruptcy is only for ABSOLUTE worst case scenario... and even then, a maybe.

and with "only" $10-12k debt, bankruptcy shouldnt even be a consideration. get it consolidated.

with the changes in bankruptcy laws, you still have to pay back your debts. maybe not all but most, also I don't remember exactly when but you can't write off your credit card debts or there was some rule that made it nearly impossible to do so.
