I lol'ed, but then remembered some cold-ass mornings when I lived in Tempe h: .

I just use an ice scraper, then let the defroster melt any leftovers.

DON'T use hot water to melt the ice; luke warm maybe. If you have any small dings in the windshield from rocks and what not, the sudden change in temperature can accelerate the spread of the slightest crack in the glass. I've seen it happen, so heed my warning .
