Default David's daily affirmations

Well, once again, its time for white_n_slow to do a little self improvement. After a long, irresponsible, spendy, substance-heavy week (edit: but realistically, its been several months-even years, this last week being the worst), I've decided I need to get my behavior in check. Some of you may remember, I've tried this before, and it has worked temporarily, but I'm hoping with a little HAN support, I can make these stick. Seeing some of the self-improvements other HANers have done has been a good motivator for me.

I've had no problem identifying my shortcomings, which is better than a lot of people do, but I didn't have a good idea of how to work on them. Then I remembered that my mom has a list of daily affirmations. They're taped to the mirror, and every time she's in there, she reads them aloud. She is a very mentally healthy person, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

David’s daily affirmations:

I will strive to be patient and level-headed in all situations.

I will refrain from drinking on weekdays, and only drink football beer on Sunday.

I will start the work day earlier, and strive to be more productive and focused at work.

I will go to the gym or do some significant physical activity at least three times a week.

I will improve my diet and reduce my food spending.

Wish me luck

I'm already doing the gym thing, and have started cooking at home instead of buying junk all the time. And I have cut down significantly on the road-rage and work-rage... so most of these aren't too over the top. The drinking one is definitely going to be the hardest.

I hope meth wasn't one of those substances.

You might have to move out of Boulder to get this one to stick. That's what I had to do. Just way too much boozing going on in that college town.

it's good to recognize that change is needed ... but .. that's a lot of stuff to do man.

more power to ya, but it might be a bit easier to a modest renovation instead of total teardown.

I see what you mean. Although I'm going to try and take all of these very seriously, I don't want to beat myself up. I see them more as things to work towards rather than concrete rules (for instance, I know I'll get impatient or angry at some point, and I'd be amazed if I nailed the booze one without a few stumbles along the way)... if I fawk up, I'll just keep trying.
