a few things. the radiator: the expansion tank neck is known to break. but you can get a replacement that is much sturdier and problem solved.

besides that the engine is very solid. You should do a coolant flush every year just to be on the safe side as the v8 does run a bit hot.

water pump might go but they last at least 100K miles

the only major component that wears out quickly is the clutch typically 60K-70K. other bmws usually last 100K or more.

nothing really about the suspension to look out for. electrically e39 is the best. no nagging problems like the e46 3 series.

other then that it's got gobs of power. you might not like the shifter if your used to japanese gear box (specially acura or honda sports models). it'll probably feel like the throws are long and the gates are wide.

oh and the gas milage.. don't expect anything close to 20mpg in the city. on the freeway it's not too bad due to the 6th gear.

thanks for the info :rick: I'll pass it along to my buddy. I would love to buy it, but it just isn't in the cards right now. Maybe if he would have been getting rid of it next spring Hopefully I can get my buddy Brian to buy it so I can enjoy it anyhow h:
