owned v.new job
so i used to work part time as an instructional assistant in math at a community college
they didnt give me shit for hours so i left at the end of last school year
last night i get a phone call and they offer me a math 20 class to teach
i told them i would think about it and call them this morning
decided i wanted to teach it, called them up
and got fucking owned
the math director didnt realize i didnt have any grad school credits and legally they need someone who has at least 12 credits to teach the class
so i cant teach the class, and will remain unemployed for the moment
fuckajob

pretty weak to offer a job then revoke it, but what can you do
i would like to try teaching just to see if i want to go back to school and get a masters and pursue teaching as a career, but with the way they treat their faculty i dont think i would enjoy it much for very long
although there are some great perks to teaching at a community college :rick:
on the brighter side the gf got her ta for grad school
waived tuition
15k a year
plus mediocre benifits
looks like she will be buying the ramen for a while

is it really that hard to find a po-dunk job until you get something better?
i can't understand all the unemployed threads. at least go find a part time job at the mall or a grocery store or something until you find what you really want...

Getting hired at shitty part-time jobs isn't always as easy as one would think.
At least that's been my experience
h: :isspecial:
Most people can easily pull that off though unless they live in a particularly bad (job-wise) area so you make a valid point.
