This happened to me a couple weeks ago. Best solution was to take some lighter fluid and dampen the tip of a cloth with it, or apply it directly to the sap, then use a little elbow grease to rub it off and it goes away really nicely.

It doesn't have to be messy. Get some on a warm washcloth, let it soak for a minute, wipe it off.

same problem he still has to gather fire wood make a fire pit, get the pot or the kettle and find a working flint to start a fire
