some computer hardware configurations questions

I think I'll have a total of 4 harddrives.
1 in the IDE channel probably serve as main for the OS
2 in the satas
1 external
I've never ran sata before, as you know by now. But, never once had I lost data due to harddrive failure. I'll keep videos and mp3s in the 2 satas and the external one.
