I'm sort of gamer retarded, so bare with me on this one: Is it possible just to take the XBOX 360 hardware out and put it in like a conventional tower?
The cooling problem would probably be alleviated due to the additional breathing room and surface area to stick additional cooling fans.
Maybe they're just too worried about making the 360 easily portable.
