Southbound Interstate 17 reopened after someone jumped from an overpass onto the freeway near Indian School Road on Thursday afternoon.
The person was struck by a vehicle and died, according to the Department of Public Safety.
The freeway was closed temporarily. A tarp covered what appeared to be a body. Southbound traffic had been backed up as far as Dunlap Avenue as a result of the closure, and northbound traffic had been backed up to McDowell Road. Traffic appeared to have mostly recovered after the freeway was reopened.
The individual has not been identified, Public Safety officials said. Officers were continuing the investigation.
