Default dog is sick

he was throwing up the day before and is now lethargic
some kind of doggy food poisoning?
what treatments/rememdies are there short of taking him to the vet?

you can buy ginger pills at any pet store...they will help to settle his stomach.

How old is he? How many times did he throw up? Was it mostly food or bile? And by lethargic, is he just really tired or does he seem uncomfortable?

You could try small amounts of rice and/or cottage cheese to help his stomach out. I wouldn't put off a trip to the vet if he doesn't seem any better going on the 24 hour mark.

if you insist on not taking him to the hospital....

take him off solid food for 24 hours. very important because his stomach needs to recover.... it sucks when he goes to his bowl and there is nothing but its best for him so just do it.

give him a 50/50 mixture of water and pedialite. this is the most important to keep him hydrated and restore his electrolytes.

for a smaller dog, give him 1/2 of a pepcid tablet. average to large dog, give him 1 whole pepcid.

if he is shittin, give him a childs dose of immodium (liquid with an eye dropper is obviously the easiest way to do this...)

late entry: i had to go through this with my dog this summer but it carried on for a week +.... we took her to the vet and the above is exactly what they did for her, she came home as good as new.... and i came home $360 poorer.
