no such thing as standard, it's called simplified.

 

Well I just found out its a 2 part class, they started 101 this semester, and 102 next semester..gotta call the instructor and find out if i can jump into 102 or else ill have to wait for next fall...and i dont believe they have any classes above 100 level

 

and to add to that. simplified is just the way it's written. not the way it's spoken


but yes, i'd say it's a great language to learn. i wish i could speak mandarin. lots of job opportunities if you can speak the language

Depends what you're looking for. If you're looking for a good grade or to be able to actually apply it, I'd go with Spanish.

shit. i took spanish from 6th grade to 12th and four semesters of it in college and i can barely speak it.

 

well it's sort of different.... because I can speak a little mandarin but only if it's spoke by Taiwanese, the mainland chinese pronounce the words very very differently. I guess you can call it at accent but man it's so far off I can't make out what the actual word that is pronounced.

hah, yeah. that's defiinately just accent.

it's also funny that my mom speaks Taiwanese, but Ling's language is Chaozhou. my mom can understand Chaozhou, but Ling cannot understand Taiwanese.

 

cantonese is harder than mandarin. cantonese has more tones
