I uninstalled and reinstalled a gas 50 gallon water heater myself.
Install it on your own, rent tools from Home Depot.

the tankless unit is a Noritz brand which ive found online for about $2k. shipped.

theyre good for lighter usage... but if you have 2 or 3 people using it at the same time..... the water wont get hot enough.

Unless the power goes out. I was happy we had a gas water heater when we lost power for 8 days last October.

Tankless rocks, definitley worth the few extra bucks in the long run since it pays for itself in a short time (5 years on average) and is a desired upgrade for any house which improves resale immensley.
During my remodel I am planning on putting one in as well
Tankless > all other water heaters
