Default Internet/Comcast/Linksys Help!

We got comcast today, but I'm having a few problems.

I can connect to the internet when connected directly to the cable modem. I just bought a new WRT54G Linksys router. When I plug that into the modem and attempt to connect to the internet with my computer, I get nothing. The cables are plugged into the correct spots.

Can anyone give me some help?

make sure to reboot the router when switching what is connected to it (ie. modem or computer)

when using the router... check that you are receiving a Private IP form the router (192.168.). check that the router is receiving an IP from the modem in the router's config.

reboot everything
make sure your router is spoofing the mac address from the computer
make sure your wan settings are correct, prolly should be dynamic ip, not set to PPPOE or something
make sure your router is receiving a valid ip from comcast

Weird.. My computer is working now.
I had plugged in my laptop into my modem and it hadn't worked so I tried cloning my mac address from my desktop computer. I had already reset the modem and the router and it hadn't worked so finally I decided to unplug both things and restart them then it worked.

if you have v8 you're SOL, stick with the stock firmware

the reason the router didn't work is because most modems will lock onto the MAC address until they are restarted.

1-4 good for dd-wrt, openwrt, and tomato
5-6 pain in the ass to install micro builds of dd-wrt... usually bricked
7 unsupported
8 will support micro builds of dd-wrt(not yet)

Running 8

I had restarted the modem a couple times before. I didn't unplug the modem.
