Paramount pictures Move to HD DVD exclusively. Bye Bye Blu-ray
Paramount has issued a press release providing more details on the studio's just announced move to support HD DVD exclusively. According the the press release, the studio will exclusively support HD DVD format on a worldwide basis, including all movies distributed by Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks Pictures, Paramount Vantage, Nickelodeon Movies and MTV Films, as well as movies from DreamWorks Animation, which are distributed exclusively by Paramount Home Entertainment.
The studio says it will launch its exclusive HD DVD program with the release of 'Blades of Glory' on August 28th (a release which was previously announced for both formats), and will follow with two of the biggest grossing movies of the year 'Transformers' and 'Shrek the Third.'
The press release attributes the decision to "an extensive evaluation of current market offerings, which confirmed the clear benefits of HD DVD, particularly its market-ready technology and lower manufacturing costs."

Feels good to be able to say that after everyone thought I was an idiot for saying it in the first place

HD DVD Players works best for the home theater fanatics while the Blu-ray Player is designed for gamers. Will a gamer buy more movies or games for his PS3? I think games don't you....

Add to that the fact that there aren't really any dazzling titles on the PS3 worth buying. They are still developing and releasing for the PS2 which means this may be a doomed platform if consumers see the combo and translate it as unworthy.
Yeah this is a pretty serious blow and could change the market swing considerably so watch for large fluctuations in Sonys stock today and tomorrow. Hope they hold together but it may wake them up a bit as well.
