So i didnt reformat my computer after putting in a new motherboard and processor, and windows xp is prompting me to re-activate my windows software.

when i enter in the password, it says that the password i used has exceeded the allowable amount of times for it be used.

if i reformat and reinstall, will i still be faced with this issue?

you can call MS and tell them what happen

 

Call MS and they'll give you an activation code I believe.

 

my brother gave me this copy of xp so theres no receipt.

if i call and tell them that i got a new motherboard, will they trip and ask for proof of purchase or receipts?

 

because you have new hardware you will have the same problem. just call MS and activate over the phone

 

 

they wont ask for a receipt. all they ask for is the key that shows up when you choose activate over phone
