TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- A Japanese biker failed to notice his leg had been severed below the knee when he hit a safety barrier, and rode on for 2 km (1.2 miles), leaving a friend to pick up the missing limb.
The 54-year-old office worker was out on his motorcycle with a group of friends in the city of Hamamatsu, west of Tokyo, on Monday, when he was unable to negotiate a curve in the road and bumped into the central barrier, the Mainichi Shimbun said.
He felt excruciating pain, but did not notice that his right leg was missing until he stopped at the next junction, the paper quoted local police as saying.
The man and his leg were taken to hospital, but the limb had been crushed in the collision, the paper said.

Ummmmmmmmmmmm....WTF! How could you feel an excruciating pain and not stop or at least look down at your leg where you feel the pain!?!?
When I read the headline, I pictured a bicyclist and I was REALLY confused how that worked :lmao:

it's somewhat understandable. it's only the part below the knee. if you hit something, of course you're gonna feel pain. you always hear about the "phantom limb", and it may have felt like his leg was still there. :dunno:
This isnt the first time Ive heard of something like this. A co-worker had his ring finger cut off on a construction site when he went to jump down from a 3ft gap and slapped his hand on a wall above him and his ring got caught on a nail and BOOYEAH, off came the finger. He didnt realize it until he finally looked down and then went into shock, not from the pain but from the realization that his finger was missing.
but think about it realistically, you're on a motorcycle, you hit a barrier, don't you at least look down to see if you're ok when you feel some pain. or at least make sure nothing on the bike broke or fell off?
not to mention, blood loss would be quite extreme in a normal situation, thats going to wreak havoc with your system.
