Default dSLR crew v.finally checking in

I finally picked up the camera that I've been eyeing for quite a while now. I got an XTi with the kit lens, a 1GB memory card and a Canon camera bag for $800. What are some other essentials that I should pick up?

buy a DVD specific to the XTi.

it helps.

get a UV filter so you dont scratch the lens.

get a 50mm F/1.8 for 80 bucks.

get a Battery grip.

get a replacement for the kit lens.

hahaha u just stepped into the wrong hobby if u're poor.

its cool though, i'm a noob too.

I'll look into getting the DVD. How much does a UV filter run? I've heard the battery grip is really nice to have. I'm pretty poor but I plan on taking baby steps with this.

Also, it turns out that in my haste I grabbed the wrong memory card. I got an SD instead of a CF card. It looks like I'm going back to the store tomorrow. I hope I can exchange it.

Filters vary with size, coatings 01 UV and 1A sky will be the cheapest, look at around 25-30 dollars. You have to match the size of the lens and it's a good idea to get one for every lens.

I ended up spending close to $500 on filters for all my glass. I have 2 for the super zoom and one each for the rest. when i shop for glass i try to look at the filter size so I can save a little money and match the sizes that I already have :hs:
