VLC sucks for hi-def stuff.
either go with linux (linux mce, myth, etc)
or go with xp pro... strip the extra shit and get a good codec pack

why does vlc sucks for HD? high def video or audio??
I've been using vlc for awhile, but been wanting something with a nicer display.

There is not a single thing in the initial post that I understand.

You can't have the hop if you don't have the hip.

If your "Home Movies" are in an mkv container, try the following:
get the CCCP codec pack.
acquire CoreAVC.H264.Video.Decoder. PM if you need it. It is a .ax file.
download The Core Media Player 4.11.
Open mkv file with The Core Media Player 4.11.
The movies that are choppy in VLC play smoothly in Core Media Player.
You can set Media Player Classic which comes with CCCP to use the CoreAVC filter instead of FDDShow but it escapes me how to at the moment
