It seemed like many people, commenters on ethanhaaswaswrong.blogspot.com and on these forums, believed that the Ethan Haas mystery was linked to 1-18-08.
Sure, the timing was odd, the plot seemed plausibly connected, and the marketing was similar. However, all the believers missed a solid piece of evidence, when J.J. Abrams said that Ethan Haas had nothing to do with 1-18-08.
So, for those who havn't yet found out, this whole Ethan Haas thing is a table top RPG called Alpha Omega. Marketing was done by Red Interactive, and the game is by Mindstorm Labs.
Mindstorm really wants to hit off a whole new era for tabletop RPGs, and they must have believed that such a marketing strategy would have attracted thousands more that wouldn't normally be interested in such a product, and it seems to have had an affect.
Currently, the official website for Alpha Omega seems to be down, but this is most probably due to just a massive overflow of unexpected traffic, using up the sites bandwidth. The Triton Enterprises, main page for Mindstorm Labs, and a link on Ethanhaaswasright.com lead to the site for the game, www.alphaomegathegame.com
Kudos to those who will continue to look into the game, I'm hoping it will be something different.
