Default balancing a checkbook

does anyone still do this?

with the advent of "online bill pay", "direct withdrawl PayPal", debit cards, and instant transfers ... I have a hell of a time trying to balance my checking account.

I just find myself logging into my online enabled bank account and making sure that the transactions listed are valid.

Ever since stuff was available online for me to see, I haven't used the checkbook since.

Yep, I still balance mine. Then I compare it to what my online account info shows and pray that it matches.

amsouth is pretty good about showing details of pending transactions instead of just a non-matching leger vs available balance so it's not really necessary since we only write checks to 1 or 2 companies

I kind of balance mine. I get my online statement, compare it to my checkbook and make sure that it matches. Normally it does, but sometimes there is something that I had forgotten to write down in the checkbook. h:
