Default Worse mpg the more I drive

Last week I filled up 3 gallons. About 1/3 of a tank and got ~40 mpg. This week I filled up like 3/8s of a tank and get 32.x mpg.
Why is it the longer I wait to fill up, the worst gas mileage I get?

because the way you're doing it isn't an accurate account for overall mpg

Yup

Just fill the whole tank up, I don't know why people only put a 10 bucks in here and there.

No, I always keep it on full. I wait until I hit about 1/2 tank before I fill up. But if I wait until 3/4 tank to top it off, I get better mileage.

because fuel gauges aren't accurate.
I always wait till way after my fuel light comes on. I know how many miles I can get to a full tank, and I use as many as I can get away with.

Ya, but that doesn't really apply to him becuase he fills the tank up and reads the receipt, lol.

So why fill up when you only need 3-6 gallons???
