Default Computer nerds...enter :o There are PopTarts and Hot Pockets within

This is what I want to do: Be able to use my laptop in my car and use it to view maps...such as maps.google.

But, I dont have the internet everywhere I go. So I was wondering if there are ways to "preload" the maps onto my hard drive. That way, I can just pull out the maps in my cache or something. Of course I cant store everything on there. But I figure I can do all the places that I am unfamiliar around here.

you'll need something like this ...
http://www.microsoft.com/streets/default.mspx

(IBGPSDorksTryToSaySomethingSmart)

You don't need the internet to view the maps, buy you'll need a sat. antenna to tell you where you are.

Woot sometimes has the 2006 version for $40 or so.

yeah I use my laptop as GPS. I got some old version of streets and trips with the gps locater. Then I got a program called iGuidance which is much better.

Look on ebay for an old version of microsofts software or just a GPS dongle

So the GPS locator is a hardware and allows my laptop to turn into a GPS thingy? Interesting.

try what e39 suggested
or if you're really on a tight budget, find a used gps locator for cheap (around $25-30 on mp3car.com) and a copy of iGuidance
best gps navigation software out there
