Default Wireless Internet cards...anyone use them? Worth it?

I am freelancing this summer for a couple different newspapers. They all require me shoot, then edit and transmit them on the spot after an assignment. They don't mind if it's up to an hour after, but the quicker they get it, the better.

So, I am questioning whether or not it's worth it to get a verizon wireless card much like their staffers.

It's $130 up front plus $60 a month. I figure two-three months freelance would be $180; total of $300 for the summer.

Assignments are per assignment at $90-150. Thus far it's been pretty busy. And I could use the card on vacation.

However, how fast is the web? Are there establishments that offer free web that I could find after assignments?

depends on how good the signal is. sometimes it's lightning fast....sometimes it's slow as hell. my company issued me one a while back and i've been using it whenever i'm not near anyplace with internet access

I have the Srint EVDO and that thing kicks ass, it kept me connected from Detroit to LA and Detroit to San Diego. Verizon is fuckin expensive, my card was free and I pay 40 a month for unlimited.
