I can buy those all day around here for less than half that price.

The V6 isn't worth jack shit because they are kinda crap engines and the head gaskets go in them. We end up buying 93-98s for under $4k all day long because of blown motors, swap the motor and have a really nice dailt driver for next to nothing.

Keep looking.

So should I say away from the v6? And it seems the general going price of a 97-99 is around $12-15k

I dunno it's kind of a turd engine but the 4 cyls are hard to find (kinda rare) and underpowered in the 3rd gen chassis.

I would say check your local craigslist and pick one up with a toasted motor. Then buy a Chevy Vortech 4.3 and drop it in. You will still be far under that price and have a reliable setup for daily driving.

Yah I don't have that option I just want to buy straight up and go from there and all these problems I hear about the v6 makes me really want to reconsider them And I really like the 4runner.

OK in that case do not buy from a lot, they are going to rape you hard on the vehicle price and lie to you until your ears bleed.

Look at private owner used and you will save a ton on it. Ask the owner if the head gasket has been changed. If they say yes ask for paper proving it. If not then have a qualified mechanic look it over and make sure the vehicle is in good shape. then if you buy it and it hasn't had the head gasket done go out and have it done immediatley.

You should be good for another 100k with the new head gasket no problem as long as you aren't out romping the piss out of it.

Hmmm good advice! I'll definitely take anyone I'm interested in for a BCAA 125 point inspection.
