back story: say you have 2 friends that are dating. they date for like a year and a half, and then they break up. you're friends with the guy, hang out all the time, could even be considered "best friends", etc. then that guy starts dating one of your other mutual friends. you kinda stop hanging out with him, but end up hanging out with his ex-girlfriend (with which you were friends with before). and then eventually you start dating his ex-girlfriend.
here's the twist: your new gf (his ex) tells you about their previous relationship and tells you stories about how he "mistreated" her, etc (whether they're true or just perceived mis-treatments is up for debate). would you stop being friends with the guy based on what she said he did to her? or would you be able to say "that's in the past, he's still my friend"?
*EDIT* he didn't hit her or anything.

not abuse. more like not being considerate or something. e.g. broke up with her under shady circumstances, took her to scary movies she didn't like, showed too much pda when she said not to, etc.
But as said before in a situation like that I'd not date her for the fact she'll tell you up and down and compare a lot of what you do with her previous relatioship.
