xp activation question

im formatting a laptop for my friend and his key under the laptop isnt going thru
any ideas short of contacting MS?

All I could think of I could think of is microsoft contact.

Are you using the disc from that laptop?

he didnt have it so i used a 9in1

maybe the version you're installing is not the same version as the key.

you shouldve use the Pro corp version with the pro crop key


or just use wpa_kill to kill the activation on your legally used xp key and install.

I was under the impression that a product key isn't tied to one particular CD. :dunno:

Its not. You misinterpreted what he said. You can't use a Home key for Pro and visa-versa.
