Default weird computer problem ("it's so cold, so cold, so cold" - e3NiNe)

my girlfriend's computer has recently been shutting off, but the amber light stays on, so its almost like it is going into hibernation.

in order to get it to boot back up, you have to hold in the power button until the light turns off, and then hit it again so it boots up.

but then.. sometimes it boots up fully and stays on for a minute or two, then sometimes it gets to the window's loading screen and shuts off, but sometimes it doesnt even make it to the windows loading screen and shuts off. same amber light problem.

last week sometime, it booted up and i changed the power settings and turned everything off.. or made it so everything stayed on.. how ever you want to look at it and it fixed it for like three, four days, but now that doesnt help at all and i dont think its that because sometimes it doesnt even get to windows.

any ideas?

1) Check to see if hibernation is enabled (Control Panel -> Power Saving)
2) How dirty is the inside of the case? Could be overheating

1) already did the power saving and shit, its not even booting up to windows before it shuts off though.
2) gonna check that tonight or tomorrow. think i might just take the case off and put a fan on it to see if it runs.

sounds like a overheating or failing hardware issue(PSU, memory)
